Marching Band Music
What should you be doing at this time?
- LEARN & MEMORIZE your warm-ups.
- LEARN & MEMORIZE the parade music. We only have 2 short rehearsals before we perform it.
- START LEARNING your show music. The more you practice now, the better we will be because we'll be able to focus on the details.
MOST MUSIC will be available on SmartMusic. Use this tool to help you practice. (More details to come)
How to get set-up on SmartMusic:
Go to http://admin.smartmusic.com/join
Use "RYPJN-LMLUF" as the class code and click "Find Your Class"
You will then be prompted to login or create an account. (Accounts are free to you!)
Once you're logged in:
On the homepage you'll see a list of current "assignments." You can click "more" in the upper right if they don't all show up.
Open an assignment. Click "complete assignment" to practice the music (don't worry - you don't ACTUALLY have to submitit.) The music will appear on your screen.
Hit record to play along with the other parts.
Things that are helpful:
You can adjust the tempo in the upper left.
At the top, you can adjust the volume of the accompaniment (other instruments), "my part" (which can be helpful to practice with), and the metronome. Playing along with "My Part" is a great way to check yourself.
Clicking on the music will let you start in different positions - you don't have to always start from the beginning.
Click on a note and two icons will appear. The one on the left will show the fingering. The one on the right will play the pitch.
Notes that turn green were correct, notes that turn red are incorrect (or, in some cases, it picked up some background noise.) Yellow notes are correct but slightly off time. (Remember - technology is not always perfect. If you get a red note, CHECK THAT NOTE. It is possible you played it right, but CHECK IT before determining that.)

DrumLine Warm-Ups
These are some warm-ups we've used in the past. Have these learned and memorized BEFORE arriving to camp, so we can simply fine tune them on our first day. Our new instructors may give you others, but it doesn't hurt to learn these too. Don't be afraid to contact Mrs. B if you need help. PRINT THESE and put a hard copy in your binder. Bring it to camp!
If you want to come get a drum, email Mrs. B. She can meet you at school and get it to you. Practicing on a pad works as well!

Practicing pit percussion can be difficult because you don't have access to instruments at home. Here are some helpful tips.
1. Do you have a piano at home? Learning the notes on piano will allow you to transfer to a mallet instrument rather quickly because you'll be familiar with the patterns of white and black keys. Use as many fingers as you'll have mallets to practice sticking.
2. Mrs. B can lend you a small bell kit if you need one. Reach out and she can meet you at school.
3. "Air practicing" with mallets in hand, in the air, or on a table helps build muscle strength. You can also visualize the patterns you have to play.
4. There are "practice pads" you can get. These are actual size. https://shop.dpgperforms.com/mallet-keyboard-practice-pads/
5. For rack players, practicing rhythms on a pad is beneficial.
Blocks and Broccoli are ON SMARTMUSIC.

We will have a handful of alumni joining us for the OC Day parade. We always invite students who have graduated in the past 5 years to join us if they'd like to.

Show music
PRACTICE before band camp begins. The more you can figure out on your own, the more we can pay attention to the details of making music when we are together. Don't be afraid to contact Mrs. B if you need help.
Before camp, PRINT THESE and put a hard copy in your binder. Check again the week before - there may be changes. Bring it to camp!

UPDATED 6/28 - SNARE AND BASS DRUM PARTS now available for the whole show. These are also on SmartMusic.
Part Assignments - Winds/Brass
Flutes - Connie (top on piccolo), Piper (bottom), Leire (bottom)
Clarinet 1- Colin, Grace (during the solo, play part 2)
Clarinet 2 - Lisa-Sophia (top when it splits), Elijah (bottom), Vivian (bottom)
Trumpet 1 - Levi (top), Allison (bottom)
Trumpet 2 - Sasha
(Jayden dropped out so I'm working hard to find another trumpet player so we can keep Brianna on mellophone. Talk to every trumpet player you know!)
Low Brass - Part 2 is just for the trombone duet in part 4, so all should learn part 1. Caden and Liam, go ahead and BOTH learn the solo that is currently N-O. With that, we haven't decided if that's all a solo or if it will work better as a conversation back and forth. The drill will be the determining factor. Once at O, Caden should play Low Brass 1 and Liam should play Low Brass 2. (James, I will have a part for you in Part 4 soon.)
Part Assignments - Percussion
I should have the first 3 parts for the pit in the next day or two!
