General Information
Solo & Ensemble Festival is on Saturday March 2nd, 2024 at North Oldham HS. All students are required to participate as part of their section ensemble.
What are they performing?
With help from our sectional instructors, students have prepared an ensemble piece as a section (flute ensemble, clarinet ensemble, etc.) They will perform these at Solo and Ensemble for a judge who is a master on their instrument. They will receive immediate feedback as well as a sheet with comments and a rating of I (Distinguished), II (Proficient), III (Apprentice), or IV (Novice.) These ratings will be turned into grades as follows: Distinguished - 100, Proficient - 90, Apprentice - 75, Novice - 60, No Show - 0. This counts as a PERFORMANCE grade.
Students have had at least one day a week in class to prepare their pieces.
Some students are performing solos or duets that they volunteered to do and these are for Music Potential points! A distinguished solo receives 75 points (proficient gets 50) and a distinguished ensemble (outside of their required one) earns them 50 points (25 for a proficient rating.)
